In Service of Mercy: Evansville's WWI Nurses
In honor of the World War I Centennial, the Vanderburgh County Clerk's Office is researching and compiling the biographies on each remarkable woman who served as a WWI nurse from Vanderburgh County.
Among the records collected within the Vanderburgh County Clerk's office is a register of World War I Nurses from Vanderburgh County. In honor of the WWI Centennial, the Vanderburgh County Clerk's office is working to honor these nurses from their county.
While Sons of Men and other period publications compiled the totality of contributions to the war effort by the county, no such publication is known to have focused on the individual stories of Evansville's women overseas. The 100th anniversary of U.S. entry into the war provides the perfect opportunity to rediscover the stories of those in service of mercy.
